Senior Manager of Planning Giving

The Senior Manager Planned Giving is responsible for the advancement of the planned giving strategy, stewarding a significant base of existing estate commitments and securing commitments from a large base of highly qualified planned gift prospects.

This position develops and guides implementation of strategy, including targeted communications & marketing, gift officer training & support, direct engagement with existing Legacy Society members and the strengthening of an agents of wealth network.

The Senior Manager of Planned Giving oversees a critical strategy to support the long-term impact of Catholic Charities. This position is highly strategic and partners with leaders directing Annual Fund, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Development Operations, External Affairs, Accounting/Finance and the Office for Social Justice.

Essential Functions:
• Work closely with the VP of Development and the Director of Major and Planned Giving to design a leading edge planned giving strategy.
• Implement and oversee donor engagement strategies to advance long-term philanthropic relationships, using a strong mix of tools like Raiser’s Edge and Crescendo.
• This work involves the stewardship of an existing 450 member Legacy Society and the advancement of a strategy to maximize long-term support from highly qualified potential estate donors.
• Implements and furthers planned giving strategy with development colleagues through clear communication, activity based goals and mentorship. Personally manages a portfolio of Legacy donors to ensure long-term connection to the mission and a portfolio of high capacity/high propensity planned giving prospects to secure new Legacy commitments.
• Provides leadership and direction for effective activity and results reporting related to planned giving in partnership with the Development Operations team.
• Works closely with the Director of External Affairs to ensure the tools are in place to effectively engage with Legacy donors, planned giving prospects and Catholic Charities supporters as appropriate.
• Provides strategic leadership and planned giving budget management, monitoring expense and revenue closely while also planning for strategic advancement in subsequent fiscal years.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required; minimum of five (5) years of successful major/planned giving solicitation experience with a non-profit organization is required; annual giving experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to write successful proposals, solicitations, planned gift illustrations and complex reports from the database to track and analyze department metrics.
• Strong computer skills in MS Word and Excel, as well as proficiency with Raiser’s Edge.
• Knowledge of Twin Cities’ philanthropic community, nonprofit community and nonprofit sector.
• Occasional early morning, evening and weekend work is required.
• Ability to work with diverse and/or low income populations, including those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental illness required.
