Fundraising Manager

Black Men Teach is a new community initiative created to increase the number of black male educators in Twin Cities elementary schools. Its six-year goal is to have 20% of the teaching staff in each of the participating elementary schools be black men. The projected budget for this work is $3,000,000, approximately $500,000 annually. The Black Men Teach board has developed its strategy, selected its partner institutions and is now raising funds needed to hire staff. To assist in that effort, the board is seeking to engage an individual or firm for up to six months to raise $500,000.

The fundraising manager will be accountable to the board of directors, following its strategic direction, and will receive support and supervision from a BMT board member. This assignment will include:

• Assisting the fundraising committee in developing its strategy
• Conducting targeted donor research focused on:
a. High-prospect foundations and corporations and associated contacts.
b. High net worth individuals with a focus on angel donors capable of investing in new and innovative projects
• Assisting in making introductions and setting up donor meetings (participate on calls as appropriate)
• Researching opportunities and write grant applications and associated workflow, including LOI, full proposal, and scheduling and preparing board members for site visits
• Maintaining a calendar of proposal dates and the schedule for reports and other required donor communication
• Creating a collection of well-designed communication materials


Minimum of three years’ experience in fundraising, including experience in the education sector
Proven track record of writing successful grants
Excellent written and oral communication skills



Upon agreement of the contract terms, the fundraising manager will begin work as soon as practical
