Planning to Keep Your Donors

Workshop Objectives
Following the AFP Planning to Keep Your Donors Workshop participants will be better able to:

  • Identify effective practices to retain and upgrade your donors to improve fundraising effectiveness
  • Prepare a donor retention plan for your organization
  • Use data from growth-in-giving reports to develop growth-related fundraising strategies

Workshop Content
The AFP Planning to Keep Your Donors Workshop is based on data collected via the Fundraising Effectiveness Project.  Its purpose is to show nonprofits the value of tracking overall gains and losses in gifts and donors – then how to use that information to develop cultivation strategies to improve donor retention.
The focus of this workshop is on developing a donor retention plan based on what research indicates really works.

Topics covered include:

  • Why organizations lose donors and money
  • How keeping donors increases fundraising success
  • Determining the effectiveness of fundraising efforts
  • Developing a successful donor retention plan
  • A tool you can use even if you don’t have access to donor software

The workshop curriculum is presented through lecture, a fictional case study based on real data, and the encouragement of participant dialogue.

About the Presenter

Audrey KintziAudrey Kintzi, MS, ACFRE, is the Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.  Her work with Saint Mary’s is focused on engaging benefactors in the amazing mission of the university to awaken, nurture, and empower learners to ethical lives of service and leadership.  Before joining Saint Mary’s she was the Executive Vice President for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Minnesota Chapter.  Prior to her work at the MS Society Kintzi served as the VP/ Chief Development Officer for Courage Center a nationally-recognized rehabilitation facility in Golden Valley, MN. Ms. Kintzi also serves as a member of the faculty for the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business and Saint Mary’s University Masters in Philanthropy and Development program.

Ms. Kintzi has been working in the development field for over 25 years. Prior to her work with the MS Society and Courage Center, she was the Chief Advancement Officer for the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley. Prior to the Girl Scouts, she was the Chief Development Officer for the American Red Cross of the St. Paul Area.

A 1983 graduate of Mankato State University, Ms. Kintzi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications – Public Relations and Theatre – Directing/Acting. In 1994, Ms. Kintzi obtained her Master’s degree in Continuing Studies – Business and Speech Communications, also from Mankato State University.

In 1991, she obtained the designation of CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive). In October of 2004 she obtained her ACFRE (Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive).  In February of 2001, Ms. Kintzi was awarded the Paid-Staff Excellence Award for Disaster Fundraising by the American National Red Cross. In November 2004 Ms. Kintzi received the Outstanding Fundraising Professional from the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Minnesota Chapter.

Ms. Kintzi serves on a number of committees and advisory councils.  She is currently on the international board of directors for the Association of Fundraising Professionals.  Ms. Kintzi also serves as a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Education and Training Committee, co-chair of the Fundraising Effectiveness Workshop Advisory Group and is a member of the Research Council and Publishing Advisory Committee.
