Director of Major Gifts

Aeon’s Director of Major Gifts will advance the mission of the organization and drive the success of our strategic plan, which calls for significant increases in capital raising activities. The Director of Major Gifts will play a vital role in prospecting for philanthropic-minded donors and investors and will work closely with the Vice President of Advancement and CEO in cultivating and stewarding key relationships. This position reports to the Vice President of Advancement.

Essential functions include:
• Relationship Building: Using the systems that guide resource development work at Aeon, work with major individual and institutional donors (currently $2,500+) and impact investors to strengthen mutually beneficial relationships and grow support for Aeon’s mission. Work collaboratively with the rest of the Advancement team for seamless stewardship of donor relationships.
• Planned Giving: Lead efforts to formalize Aeon’s planned giving program, the Keystone Society, reviewing and updating policy and procedures within the program, developing collateral in coordination with the marketing team, and establishing annual activities to support the growth of the overall program.
• Management: Supervise the work of the Mid-Level Gift Officer, whose work focuses on donors of $500-$2,500. In collaboration with the Vice President of Advancement, set annual revenue budget goals. Play a role on the leadership team of the Advancement department, setting strategy and solving for barriers to success. Promote a culture of continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to equity and diversity. Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach. Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct annual performance appraisals.
• Support of Advancement Activities: Play a leadership role within the Advancement team and its overall efforts to drive revenue for the organization. Participate in team meetings, activities and events, like the annual Beyond Bricks & Mortar breakfast. Champion a culture of philanthropy that celebrates donors and engages employees as ambassadors for Aeon. Be an enthusiastic and collaborative member of the overall Advancement Team.

Skills & Qualifications:
• Resourcefulness & Initiative: You have a proven track record of taking initiative, building significant win-win relationships for growth. You have a bias for taking action.
• Customer Focus: Strong natural ability and proven record of building mutually beneficial relationships. Interest in actively interacting with supporters, likable demeanor, and ability to make good first impressions. Excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Other Requirements: You’re an engaging, straightforward, relationship-building, problem-solving, kind, tenacious, and collaborative seeker of excellence.
