About Green Minneapolis: Green Minneapolis is a young non-profit working to enhance the vitality of downtown Minneapolis through parks and greening. Green Minneapolis builds public-private partnerships to achieve greening projects that can’t be done by government alone. We are growing a green future for downtown, with tree-lined streets and active public spaces. Current projects include operations and management of The Commons, fundraising for the rehabilitation of Peavey Plaza, and providing enhanced street tree maintenance throughout downtown.

Green Minneapolis’s administrative services (accounting staff, accounting and other IT systems, HR and payroll) are provided to Green Minneapolis by the mpls downtown council (the “mdc”). This position will be an employee of the mdc serving to implement this role for Green Minneapolis. The mdc has the same primary mission for Downtown and is a 501 © 6 non-profit corporation.

Purpose of Position: Advance the mission of Green Minneapolis by assisting with cultivation and solicitation of gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations; coordinating fundraising events, managing gift entry and donor database; recognizing supporters and coordinating volunteer support for the organization.

Position Summary: The Development Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing donor engagement and fundraising strategies for Green Minneapolis. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Manager plays a key role in achieving fundraising goals through direct solicitation, grant management, corporate sponsorship, membership-based support, annual fund mailings, and special event fundraising. The Development Manager is responsible for prospect and donor cultivation and stewardship. This position works with donors, volunteers, the Board, and various committees. Utilizes technology to assist in managing fundraising database, including gift and data entry, reporting, and fundraising goal-setting.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Donor Cultivation, Solicitation and Stewardship
● Working with Executive Director, implement all aspects of annual fundraising plan, including:
o Regularly update calendar of corporate and foundation grant submissions, submitting applications and reports in a timely manner.
o Research and identify potential funders, and plan and implement solicitation strategies.
o Implement annual development plan and strategy, including:
▪ Membership Plan
▪ Corporate Sponsorship
▪ Annual Fund
▪ Major Gifts
o Develop and implement direct mail, online and phone solicitations to achieve annual fund goals.
o Cultivate relationships and solicit current and potential corporate & foundation sponsors, and individual donors
o Lead all stewardship activities, including donor tracking, donor acknowledgment and annual report to donors

Communications & Events related to Fundraising and Awareness-Building
● Work with Executive Director and Director of Programming & Events to create and implement events related to:
o Annual fundraising
o Awareness building
o Volunteer engagement
● Coordinate communications, volunteers and vendors related to the events
● Manage content of giving and fundraising events webpages, including online event registration modules.
● Develop, implement and manage digital giving campaigns.
● Develop strategies to implement annual crowdfunding and/or peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives.

Administrative
● Work with accounting to assure accurate recording of all restricted and unrestricted funding; responsible for financial reporting to funders and donor acknowledgments.
● Enter all gifts in database; provide timely thank you letters to donors and regular reporting of development and volunteer efforts.
● Make presentations to the Board of Directors and participate in sub-committees as assigned
● Manage front-end content and back-end services on-line giving portal (currently Qgiv)

Other Responsibilities
● Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Position Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
● 4+ years fundraising or comparable experience; working in non-profit, development, alumni relations or other related fields.
● Results-based self-starter, able to work independently and within a team, entrepreneurial, high energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexible;
● Able to attend to detail and has a high degree of initiative;
● Experience with annual fund, grant writing, and individual gifts;
● Proven track record of successful solicitation and achieving revenue targets;
● Strong partnership-building and event planning skills;
● Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively;
● Strong computer skills and knowledge of database programs, website management and gift processing;
● Experience working in environmental, civic organization, or parks system a plus
