Position Summary: The Development Associate is responsible for supporting the Director of Development in achieving fundraising goals. Assists the Director in a variety of activities including (but not limited to): special events, appeal letters, data entry, donor management, and donor cultivation. A particular focus of this position is the annual fundraising gala including planning, auction development and guest recruitment.

Job Duties:
Special Events:
• Support the Director of Development in planning, tracking, promoting, and coordinating the annual fundraising gala.
• Coordinate and attend committee meetings for the gala and ensure timeline is maintained.
• Coordinate with the Director of Development and other staff to plan and execute cultivation and fundraising events during the year.
• Assist Director of Development in tracking and acknowledging event donors, sponsors, and supporters.

Database Management & Clerical Support:
• Enter data (gifts and related information) into the fundraising database.
• Use fundraising database to generate and run reports as needed.
• Generate and mail acknowledgment letters.
• Ensure that quality donor stewardship and support practices are maintained.

Other Responsibilities:
• Support the Director of Development in implementing the Annual Fundraising Plan that covers a comprehensive giving program and includes planned activities and goals in the following areas: annual giving, major gifts, planned giving program for endowment, all special events.
• Work collaboratively with communications and other administrative staff. Collect and write engaging stories.
• Assist Development Director with organizing and managing informational tours for prospective donors.
• Act as a liaison with other organizations to promote the interests of MSS. Represent MSS at public and professional functions as requested.
• Abide by all relevant policies and procedures.
• Maintain a professional and positive behavioral atmosphere and act as a role model for staff and people served in the program.
• Other projects as assigned.

Qualifications: High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. 1-2 years of experience working in a non-profit or philanthropic organization is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with data entry is required. Experience utilizing a donor database (eTapestry) is preferred. Must have strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to work independently, prioritize work to meet deadlines, and multi-task. Must be able to work as an effective team member. Must be able to provide own transportation. Must pass criminal background check, DHS background check and drug screen.
