Chief Major Gift Officer

Founded in 1935, Fraser is Minnesota’s largest provider of early childhood mental health and the largest provider of autism services in the Upper Midwest. Fraser provides healthcare, housing, education, and employment services to clients with disabilities and many types of mental health diagnoses. Fraser is seeking a Chief Major Gift Officer (CMGO) who will be responsible for planning, leading, soliciting and managing “transformational” (major) gifts to Fraser. The CMGO will also solicit gifts for “cause related” marketing activities from corporations and will plan and oversee major capital campaign activities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Manage a portfolio of major gifts, which includes members of the Fraser Operating Board, Fraser Advisory Board, and Advisory Committees. In addition to these members, the CMGO will manage these entities’ contacts, the CEO’s contacts, and related relationships, corporate and foundation gifts.

• Identify and act on new major gift “key donor” opportunities including prospect research and direct solicitation.

• Sustain and cultivate personal relationships with key donors and prospective key donors while growing their giving opportunity.

• Follow compliance for donor stewardship including accurately recording, reporting and acknowledging gifts in accordance with best practice and Fraser policy.

• Maintain consistent communication with and acknowledgment to key donors.

• Work with marketing to solicit “cause related” marketing efforts (i.e. WCCO Pulling Together and other corporate opportunities).

• Work with the CEO, CFO and COO to formulate a plan for capital campaigns that includes:
-Work with the Capital Campaign Consultant(s) to provide feasibility study.
-Design, plan and assign duties throughout the Development Department.
-Deliver on campaign goals.

• Support a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with the Development and Marketing teams in order to foster alignment of business outcomes.

• Assist in the creation of a Development plan and annual budget.

• Work with the CEO to foster Fraser’s Operating Board of Director’s involvement in philanthropy and work with the CEO to effectively manage her time spent in Development activities.

• Develop annual major donor program plans and long-range fundraising plans that include targeted goals, measurable objectives, action plans, corresponding timelines and budgets that align with Fraser’s strategic fundraising plan and business objectives.

Skills and Qualifications:

• BA/BS in development, business, sales, communications, and/or marketing or a related field. Master’s degree preferred, but not required.

• CFRE certification or other major certification preferred.

• Demonstrated success and direct implementation of managing an individual and corporate major gift operation for a nonprofit, political campaign, or social enterprise with a track record of overall growth.

• Valid Minnesota Driver’s License with acceptable record required.

• Ability to successfully complete MDHS criminal background check required.

• Proven track record of soliciting and securing major gifts.

• Experience building positive and productive relationships with board members, volunteers and staff; as well as working well within a team – Strong people skills required!

• Prior experience in management of capital campaigns is a plus.

• Excellent organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize, to meet deadlines, and to management multiple priorities.

• Established contacts in the Twin Cities are preferred, with an ability and desire to make cold calls to build external relationships required.

• Demonstrated self-starter and goal-driven to initiate donor relationships and fundraising calls.

• Demonstrated motivation, initiative, creativity, persistence, commitment, attention to detail and follow-through.

• Strong technical and computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management required, with Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.

• Effective communication in the English language, including exception verbal, negotiation and inter-personal communication skills in addition to exceptional listening and customer service skills
