Jim and Carmen Campbell

Outstanding Individual Philanthropists

Jim and Carmen Campbell

Jim and Carmen Campbell have made a substantial impact on people and places in the Twin Cities through their philanthropy and have improved the lives of many people in many ways. The Campbells have a passion for a wide variety of philanthropic priorities and interests; very few organizations in our community have not been touched by their generosity. They’ve helped build houses, hospitals and churches, they’ve helped find treatments for diseases, educate children, protected nature, and the list goes on.

The Campbells have a long history of corporate and community leadership in Minnesota. Jim and Carmen grew up in the small Minnesota farm community of Byron, where they met as freshmen in high school. Carmen followed her dream to become an elementary school teacher and mother. Jim, with Carmen’s help and support, went on to a successful career in banking, becoming the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Norwest Bank in Minnesota, then Executive Vice President for Wells Fargo and chairman and CEO of Wells Fargo Bank Minnesota. Jim demonstrated his leadership in the launching of the Itasca project and initiative. Both have been extensively involved in many community and nonprofit education programs for over 50 years.

Not only do the Campbells give generously of their time, talent and treasure, they encourage others to do so as well. They know that large projects require partnership and that usually one individual or company cannot fund them on their own. Their excitement and commitment motivates and ignites passion in others and their financial commitment serves as a motivation for others to join in their efforts. The Campbells have devoted their lives to making life easier for others with their philanthropy. Jim and Carmen Campbell are truly inspiring and compassionate volunteers, humanitarians, philanthropists and advocates for others.
