About the Montessori Center of Minnesota (MCM) and Cornerstone
The mission of the Montessori Center of Minnesota (MCM) is to transform lives and society by broadening access to the power of Dr. Maria Montessori’s proven method of education. MCM’s work is centered on the core values of transformation, work, community, intentionality, and civility. Located on the East Side of St. Paul, MCM operates a premier training center for Montessori teachers and leads a collaborative to expand the access to high-fidelity Montessori programs, including Cornerstone Montessori School (CMS), a non-profit Montessori school for children 15 months through 6 years. Also housed in its facility is Cornerstone Montessori Elementary School (CMES,) a public charter Montessori school for grades K-6. MCM also offers outreach programs, including (1) Montessori Partners Serving All Children (MPSAC,) a remarkable collaborative that builds and uses relationships with schools and other organizations to increase access to Montessori education for under-resourced families in Minnesota; (2) Parent Engagement Initiative, which promotes positive parent-child interactions; (3) Mentorship and Professional Development, which provides ongoing professional development and mentorship to MCM’s teacher-in-training, alumni, and practicing Montessori teachers from throughout the region; and (4) Serving the Whole Child, a partnership with St. Catherine University, which supports MPSAC schools with program evaluation and parent enrichment activities.

Position Overview
As a member of the MCM Advancement team, the Advancement Coordinator is responsible for assisting in securing philanthropic resources for MCM with priority focus on writing grant proposals and managing the grant proposal process, building and maintaining relationships with donors through donor-focused communications and excellent customer service, assisting with fundraising events, and managing the database and systems for fundraising. The Advancement Coordinator also helps develop strategy and leads implementation of the MCM Communications Plan.

The Advancement Coordinator reports to and works with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), and other MCM staff as needed to accomplish the work of the department.

Primary Responsibilities

Foundation & Corporate Giving (30%)
• Assists with securing and stewarding grants and sponsorships from foundations and corporations.
• Researches interest areas for philanthropic foundations and corporations and works with CAO to develop proposal concepts to meet funders’ interests in alignment with MCM needs.
• Is responsible for writing grant proposals, coordinating the editing process, and the submission and tracking of grant proposals and reports.
• Coordinates and maintains the grants calendar, including collecting information and tracking deadlines for proposals and reports.
• Researches and assists with securing corporate sponsorship opportunities for events or programs.

Individual Giving (30%)
• Works with CAO to produce fundraising letters, e-mails, etc.
• Manages systems that support strong donor and funder relationships including gift processing, data entry, acknowledgements, information management, report development, special events tracking, etc.
• Prepares queries, reports, mailing lists, donor segmentation, prospects lists, and profiles as needed to support the annual fund plan.
• Works with Director of Operations to reconcile monthly contributions, pledges, and awards, and analyzes fundraising progress for fundraising team and the Board.
• Assists in creating fundraising information for the annual report and other related communications.
• Assists the Advancement team in all tasks associated with executing cultivation and fundraising events.
• Helps develop a positive philanthropic culture which is responsive to donor needs.

Communications (30%)
• With the CAO and other leadership staff, develops and implements strategies to enhance general community awareness of MCM and the importance of authentic Montessori education.
• Generates content and leads social media outreach for MCM, including trainee recruitment, donor engagement, and sharing national and international events where the MCM President is speaking.
• Develops and coordinates e-newsletters and other digital communications.
• Leads social media fundraising campaigns.
• Develops strategies and outreach around earned media.
Administrative and Other (10%)
• Provides assistance to CAO for cultivation events or other meetings.
• Assists with MCM board meeting preparation as requested.
• Answers phones and responds to donor inquiries.
• Greets visitors to MCM with enthusiasm and provides excellent customer service.
• Serves as a representative of the organization at events and in other public venues.
• Works as an effective and proactive team player.
• Performs other activities as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 3-5 years of experience in fundraising and communications
• Demonstrated success in working as a member of a team and developing effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and donors
• Excellent written/oral communication skills
• Detail-oriented
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Google applications (calendar, email, etc.)
• Proficient social media and digital systems skills, excellent donor database/CRM skills
