POSITION SUMMARY:

Exciting opportunity to lead the fundraising, volunteer, marketing and communications activities of a $30 million not-for-profit organization serving more than 18,000 people annually. This position will provide strategic vision in forging new relationships to build Avivo’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. Focus includes developing and expanding the organization’s donor base and working closely with the President/CEO to cultivate individual and philanthropic support. The Vice President will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow our fundraising through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support.

The Vice President of External Relations reports to the President/CEO and serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the organization. S/he will work closely with the board of directors and support them as they take on a more active fundraising role in preparation for a capital campaign. S/he supervises a strong external relations team with a staff of six.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy encompassing the annual fund, special events,capital fund, major gifts, bequests, and planned giving.
•    Work with President/CEO and board of directors to initiate and launch a capital campaign that will meet the long-term capital needs of the organization.
•    Work with Vice Presidents of program divisions and grants team to create a strategy that most effectively leverages public and private funding opportunities, enhancing corporate and private foundation support.
•    Oversee the development and implementation of the overall Avivo fundraising, communications and volunteer management programs.
•    Provide leadership, direction and management for Avivo’s external relations team, creating an environment of respect, accountability, motivation, professional growth, and high productivity.
•    Embrace and articulate to internal and external stakeholders the mission and vision of Avivo, enthusiastically living the values of Avivo and expanding public awareness around the Avivo brand.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 10 years experience in designing, implementing and analyzing annual, special projects and capital and endowment campaigns.
•    Deep commitment to advancing equity and undoing racism.
•    Keen understanding of donor characteristics and motivations and excellent relationshipbuilding skills.
•    Demonstrated success in securing major corporate foundation and individual gifts with a proven track record of expanding and diversifying donor base/pipeline
•    Knowledge of the Twin Cities philanthropic community.
•    Experience in board and volunteer management.
•    Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and growth within a dynamic organization.
•    Has experience and thrives in the successful development of new programs and initiatives.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills and commitment to ethical practices.
•    Experience leading and developing a professional team with demonstrated ability to inspire, engage and foster collaboration.
•    Flexible and provides creative approaches to challenges and opportunities.
•    Proven skills with Microsoft Windows, including Word and Excel, and experience in database management.
•    Ability to manage donor database systems proactively and robustly; with knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or comparable fundraising software.
•    Understands diverse groups and strives to develop cultural competency skills.
•    CFRE certification preferred.
