Fairview Health Services is hiring full time Senior Director of Philanthropy in Minneapolis, MN. The Senior Director of Philanthropy is responsible for the leadership of Fairview Foundation’s system-wide fund development functions for major, foundation, corporate and planned giving, annual giving and grants to maximize philanthropic revenue to support the mission and vision of Fairview Health Services, Ebenezer Society and the communities we serve. This leadership position reports directly to the Foundation President and is responsible for carrying out Foundation organizational objectives and priorities for both internal system clinical initiatives and external partnership initiatives focused on upstream interventions and approaches in alignment with the Community Health Needs Assessments and Community Advancement strategies.

Philanthropy inspired and directed by the Foundation is essential to create impact for our patients and to develop healthy, vibrant communities. The Foundation will fuel innovation and be a lever for meaningful change in the health and well-being of the communities we serve. To achieve this, the Foundation will focus on two primary areas:

1. Clinical Care: The Foundation will raise funds and make grants for a balanced slate of Fairview strategic initiatives and innovations related to direct patient care.
2. Community Health & Well-Being: The Foundation will raise funds and make grants for innovative, upstream approaches to address the Social Determinants of Health in alignment with Fairview’s Community Health Needs Assessment and Plan.


Leadership and People Management
• Maintain staff and volunteer focus on the philanthropic plan and balance organizational priorities effectively.
• Work collaboratively with internal and external partners (e.g. Ebenezer, University of Minnesota Foundation, Foundation Board, Hospital Presidents, Medical Staff) for philanthropic goals and successes.
• Lead and carry out the fundraising objectives of the Foundation that enable the development team and programs to function as a strong, cohesive operation.

Donor Cultivation, Marketing, & Outreach
• Work in collaboration with Foundation President, other Foundation leadership and staff on cultivation and stewardship strategies across donors, prospects, community leaders and businesses, etc.
• Actively engage with the Foundation President, Board of Directors, and other senior leaders in community relations activities that connect influencers, stakeholders and donors to enhance affinity with Fairview.
• Represent the Fairview Foundation at events, meetings and social obligations relevant to philanthropy and the goals of Fairview Foundation.
• Lead selected system-wide activities, committees or projects as assigned by the Foundation President.

• Lead the efforts to develop a strong philanthropic culture focused on the needs and interests of donors, and based on internal clinical needs and community health and well-being needs.
•Develop and implement the Foundation philanthropic plan and provide the leadership necessary to significantly increase the organization’s philanthropy capabilities and opportunities.
• Develop new initiatives to support projects and programs by building capital campaigns, endowment program funds, community partnerships, etc. to carry out the work of Fairview Foundation.
• Lead the team in developing and implementing individual plans to ensure successful results and longer term capital campaigns, major gift initiatives, and donor stewardship opportunities.


Required Education
• Bachelor’s degree

Required Experience
• 7+ years of experience in managing philanthropic plans and fundraising programs for a non-profit or foundation (preferably health-related).
• Experience in major, planned, corporate and annual giving programs.
• Management experience leading and developing a team of fundraising professionals.
• Experience working with board members, senior leaders and community leaders.

Preferred Education

Preferred Experience
• Demonstrable experience working with “C suite” level executives at large, complex organizations and boards
• 10+ years of experience in non-profit fundraising or the equivalent business or management
Preferred License/Certification/Registration
• Professional affiliation with a fundraising association i.e. Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) or the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)
