Every year Animal Humane Society cares for more than 23,000 animals in need and helps thousands more through programs for people and pets.


Primary Function:

The Mid-Level Gift Officer is responsible for cultivating and managing an assigned portfolio of mid-level donors. Reporting to the Senior Philanthropy Advisor, this position coordinates the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts for mid-level donors through personal and small group personal visits and insider experiences, strategic communications through all mediums, and personalization of outreach with the primary goals of retaining and upgrading these donors.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Implement a comprehensive action plan to cultivate, solicit, and upgrade mid-level donors. Personally cultivate and solicit mid-level donors with a goal of retaining and upgrading their gifts.

2. Manages a portfolio of 250-300 of the organization’s highest level mid-level giving prospects and donors (most with annual gift levels between $1,000 and $10,000).

3. Collaborates with the annual giving team on the strategy and plan for solicitation, stewardship, and cultivation to engage the mid-level donor group including highly personalized direct marketing efforts.

4. Meets and exceeds metrics tied to activities/moves, revenue, retention, upgrades, and meaningful cultivation.

5. Develops and implements strategies that nurture donor loyalty and foster personal relationships with the organization.

6. Responsible for tracking mid-level giving prospects and donors and documenting their cultivation and solicitation activities.

7. Contributes to development of communication materials, including publications, used in the cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement and stewardship of mid-level gift prospects.

8. Work collaboratively with the Philanthropy Advisors (major gift officers) to identify and hand off higher capacity major gift donor prospects for additional cultivation.

9. When appropriate, work with Planned Giving team to identify planned gift vehicles to help maximize current and future giving among assigned portfolio.

10. Take the lead on identifying potential prospects for matching gifts and momentum building gifts for annual giving campaigns and events.

11. Assist with Animal Humane Society’s largest event by managing/supporting a small portfolio of top Walk for Animals fundraisers during the months surrounding the walk.

12. Acts as an ambassador of the Animal Humane Society both internally and externally. Is knowledgeable of all aspects of AHS in order to provide needed information to supporters, donors, clients and the community.

Qualifications Required:

-Bachelor’s Degree required

-Gift officer experience preferred with demonstrated success in developing strategies for solicitation, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship

-Detail oriented and ability to work in fast-paced environment

-Ability to work independently and as part of a team

-Clear and persuasive written and verbal communication, presentation, and organizational skills

-Evidence of self-initiative

-Professional and positive manner

-Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred

-Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of euthanasia
