SUMMARY
The Major Gifts Officer will focus on the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts. The Officer will work to secure a stream of income from a portfolio of major gift prospects, which will require solicitations from both individuals and corporations. They will collaborate with the Development and Program Leadership Teams to develop strategies and implement tactics that successfully increase philanthropic and volunteer support for MacPhail Center for Music from both individuals and corporations.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•    Work with VP of Development to strategize, set, and meet annual fundraising goals; participates in the implementation of the fundraising plan.
•    Works with Development Team members to create and maintain a managed portfolio of prospects.
•    The Officer manages a portfolio of major gift prospects for all levels of current and new individual and corporate sources as they fit into the programs offered at MacPhail
•    Proactively seeks out prospective donors and spends at least 50% of ones time in the field with prospective donors.
•    Meets industry standards for maintaining a managed portfolio including prospect contacts, tracking and reporting. Follows a moves management process.
•    Research prospects, write letters of introduction, set cultivation and solicitation meetings, and coordinate site visits with MacPhail programs & faculty as necessary to secure funds from current and prospective individual and corporate sources.
•    Secure sponsorships for existing major MacPhail events and programs through corporate prospects and relationships.
•    Cultivate relationships with appropriate major business groups such as the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Council.
•    Work with the Grant Manager to development synergies with grantees who might also be a source of corporate sponsorship support.
•    Works with colleagues to develop and implement benefit, recognition and stewardship materials.
•    At the direction of the VP of Development, works on projects with Sr. Leadership and the Board of Directors.
•    Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelor of Arts degree in business, communications or related field; 3+ years of experience establishing and cultivating both individual and business relationships for the purpose of fundraising; demonstrated ability to promote and successfully solicit major gifts; experience and success working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds; music education background preferred.

Skills and Abilities: Solid relationship-building skills with a diverse constituency of individuals. Exceptional communicator with strong listening, speaking and writing skills; drive to proactively seek out potential donation relationships; project management skills; strategic thinker who is able to work independently to develop and execute a major gifts solicitation plan; highly developed customer service skills; proficient with Microsoft Office and constituent databases, Raiser’s Edge experience preferred; strong detail orientation

Physical Demands: Occasional lifting, approx. 10 lbs. frequently sitting, working at keyboard for up to 3 hours at a time. Occasional walking, climbing, stairs, stooping, bending, kneeling

Transportation: Ability to transport oneself to required off-site meetings, presentations and events. Required events are not always accessible via public transportation.
