Primary Function of the Position

Under the direction of the Director of Fund Development & Communications, the Grant Writer is responsible for preparing and producing draft and final form grant proposals and other solicitations for funding. This position is responsible for researching information that helps strengthen proposals and other solicitations. The best candidate has demonstrated experience in grant writing and proposal submission and other fundraising activities.

Position Specifications

•    Prepare grant proposals for foundations, corporations, and individual donors in draft and final form.
•    Work with development team members to identify and gather information on fundable projects.
•    Provide research for grant proposals and reports; this includes data collection and surveys of literature.
•    Assemble and submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, and other presentations.
•    Work with team members and program directors/managers to collect data and other information (e.g. financials) for the preparation and submission of proposals.
•    Generate proposals that are compelling and competitive.
•    Works with development team to identify and create an annual grants strategy.
•    Work with Grants Manager to identify prospective new opportunities.
•    Meet project and proposal deadlines.
•    Handle confidential financial information and grant materials with discretion.
•    Maintain good working relationship with funders and donors.
•    Communicate regularly with Director and team members.
•    Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

•    B.A. Required, preferably in English.
•    Minimum of five years of grant writing experience.
•    Demonstrated experience in successful grant writing and proposal submission resulting in awards.
•    Ability to meet proposal and project deadlines.
•    Knowledge of the current state of government, private and corporate foundation giving.
•    Demonstrated experience in working with multiple stakeholders and collaborative working relationships.
•    Ability to write and organize reports with skill in gathering required information.
•    Skills in written and verbal communication; solid editing and writing skills.
•    Ability to assist in preparing and giving oral presentations.
•    Preferred experience in serving immigrant and refugee populations.
•    Computer skills necessary using word processing, spreadsheets and data base programs.
•    Demonstrated ability to be analytical, detail-oriented, and to problem solve.
•    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also being a strong team player.
•    Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
•    Experience and desire to work with persons of diverse cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•    Ability to travel to multiple service locations, if needed.
