Education Session Summary
We’ve all heard about “relationship fundraising.” But just how does an organization either move toward or expand upon a relationship fundraising model? Adrian Sargeant, one of the foremost experts in this topic, will guide attendees through a deeper understanding of this concept, provide experiences and data to help drive strategy, and discuss practical solutions that participants can put into action. Throughout, as is his trademark style, Adrian will infuse a sense of humor and energy that will leave you inspired and ready to strengthen these opportunities within your organization.
Keynote Speaker: Professor Adrian Sargeant
Adrian Sargeant is Professor of Fundraising at the University of Plymouth Business School and the Director of the newly named Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy. He was formerly the first Hartsook Chair in Fundraising at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Philanthropy at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia and Avila University, Kansas City, United States. He earned an MBA from Heriot-Watt University in 1993 and a PhD from the University of Exeter in 1996. He is one of the world’s foremost authorities in the domains of nonprofit marketing and fundraising.
Professor Sargeant was the founding Managing Editor of the International Journal of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Marketing. He has published over 90 peer reviewed academic articles and 10 books and has made over 180 conference appearances in the past 18 years. The majority of this output has focused on the topic of fundraising.
Professor Sargeant has also acted as a consultant to numerous government bodies including the U.K.’s Giving Campaign latterly authoring their ‘Future of Giving’ report, a blueprint for doubling giving. In 2004 Professor Sargeant pioneered the public information website www.charityfacts.org and in 2010 the student site www.studyfundraising.info.
Most recently Professor Sargeant has completed the design of a new suite of fundraising qualifications for the Institute of Fundraising in London.
In 2010 he was named to the Nonprofit Times’ Top 50 Power and Influence list, identifying him as one of the leading proponents of fundraising in the United States. In the same year he received the Civil Society Award for an Outstanding Contribution to Fundraising, the only academic ever to receive the honor.
