Join Lynn Slifer and Travis Smith of the University of Minnesota for a discussion on using weighted metrics to guide development officer activity and drive better results for individuals and organizations alike.

About the Presenters

Lynn SliferLynn Slifer

Associate Vice President, Central Development Programs
University of Minnesota Foundation

A veteran Twin Cities development professional, Lynn Slifer has raised tens of millions of dollars, furthering the success of organizations like the Freshwater Foundation, Macalester College, and several different units at the University of Minnesota. For the past 17 years she has led external relations for the U of M’s College of Education & Human Development, ushering in important innovations to the school’s advancement efforts such as a dean’s advisory council and a women’s philanthropic leadership circle, as well as unprecedented growth in major gifts and faculty and staff participation in philanthropy.

Last summer, she became associate vice president of central development programs at the U of M Foundation. In this role, she oversees the regional development program, leadership annual giving and international fundraising. She is also creating and facilitating an early career development program for new development officers. Lynn holds an MFA from the University of Minnesota, and undergraduate degrees in music and humanities from Valparaiso University.

 

Travis SmithTravis Smith

Assistant Dean, Institutional Advancement
Carlson School of Mangement, University of Minnesota

Travis is a results-oriented advancement professional with over ten years of progressively responsible experience. In November 2015, Travis joined the Carlson School of Management as Assistant Dean for Institutional Advancement. This portfolio includes oversight of the Carlson School’s individual philanthropy efforts, corporate and foundation relations, and alumni relations.

Previously, Travis served as Senior Director of Advancement for the Illini Center Chicago. In this role, Travis led the Chicago regional advancement team’s fundraising efforts in addition to providing key strategic leadership for University of Illinois-Urbana’s presence in the Chicagoland market.

Prior to joining the University of Illinois, Travis spent seven years with the Oregon State University Foundation where he served as the Chief Development Officer for the College of Education and, subsequently, the College of Business. Travis was instrumental in shaping and guiding Oregon State’s efforts in their largest metropolitan market, Portland, Ore.

Earlier in his career, Travis worked with the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Oregon and lives with his wife and daughter in Hopkins, Minnesota.
