Pinky Swear has an impactful mission to help kids with cancer and their families with financial and emotional support. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development is a senior position which holds overall responsibility for the Pinky Swear development and fundraising plans, including individual giving, planned giving/major gifts, peer-to-peer fundraising, foundation grants, and direct mail. The Director of Development provides overall development policy and strategic advice to the Executive Director and development team.

Responsibilities

The Director of Development has overall responsibility for building and implementing the organization’s Development Plan. S/he will:

•    Develop an effective development plan in collaboration with the Executive Director and development team
•    Implement and manage the Development plan and budget to ensure that the organization’s goals and strategies are being met
•    Provide overall development policy and strategic advice to the Executive Director and wider team
•    Manage the process of identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual donors, including the development of strong appeals and a stewardship program
•    Lead the development of a mid/major gifts program – research and coordinate the “ask” both personally and/or by assigning various volunteers or staff as appropriate
•    Ensure appropriate donor relations including donor stewardship, recognition, communications, and relationship management.
•    Manages a position to support peer-to-peer fundraising and the expansion of our Youth Development Council
•    Research and recommend foundation grant applications, draft proposals and/or manage the grant writing process. Prepare follow up reports for grants received.
•    Oversee data selection for donor mailings and the acquisition of lists for prospect mailings and mid/major gifts
•    Support the creation of timely and persuasive fundraising communications and messaging
•    Collaborate on data strategy, donor research, acknowledgements, and reporting
•    Coordinate with Board members on Development efforts and serves as the staff liaison to the Board’s Development and other relevant committees, providing updates and reports as needed
•    Make public appearances as needed to share information about the Pinky Swear mission and plans

Skills and Abilities:

•    Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management and organizational skills
•    Capacity to provide leadership and collaborate with a team
•    Willingness to handle both strategic and tactical projects
•    Personal gravitas with the ability to connect with people at all levels
•    Strong personal commitment and passion to helping children with cancer and their families
•    Excellent communications skills – oral, written, and public speaking
•    A strong team player willing to help out where needed
•    Ability to work weekend or evening events as appropriate
•    Desire to get out of the office to network and build relationships

Required Qualifications:

•    Minimum of five (5) years development and fundraising experience, including a combination of strategic planning, individual/planned giving, peer-to-peer fundraising, direct mail, and/or grant writing
•    Proven track record to successfully raise funds and meet annual goals in collaboration with an energetic team
•    Computer skills including familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office suite, and Skype

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Previous experience managing direct reports
•    Bachelor’s degree or higher
