Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa provides hands-on environmental stewardship and service-learning opportunities to youth and young adults while accomplishing priority natural resource, environmental education, and emergency response work.


POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Development, Marketing and Communications is responsible for strategic leadership for and directly overseeing initiatives that generate charitable funds and raise the public profile of the Corps. This position will: design and manage programs that increase public awareness; develop and execute a fundraising strategy designed to support the Corps’ current and future goals; skillfully represent the organization to donors, prospects and the public; and continually seek out new avenues of support allowing the Corps to expand its scope and impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Development:
— Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan in order to meet current and future philanthropic goals.
— Initiate, cultivate and steward relationships with the Corps’ portfolio of individual, foundation, public and corporate supporters to secure and expand recurring revenue streams.
— Develop and implement major gift and planned giving campaigns. Design and manage strategies that may involve leadership staff and board members.
— Identify, research and investigate new funding opportunities from a wide variety of philanthropic and individual sources to expand the Corps’ donor base.
— Manage annual grants calendar, prepare high-quality grant proposals and supervise contract grant writer.
— Oversee maintenance of detailed, accurate donor, alumni, volunteer and prospect records and produce financial reports and donor history/profiles as needed.
— Lead and supervise the development team in the implementation of fundraising strategies, appeals and events.

Marketing and Communications:
— Oversee development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to raise the public profile of the Corps and ensure cohesive community brand awareness.
— Create and implement a comprehensive internal communications plan that contributes to the Corps’ culture of trust and respect.
— Oversee organizational messaging and ensure consistency of message, branding and alliance with Corps style guidelines in all internal and external communications.
— Work in concert with Executive Director to produce materials that support the Corps’ legislative efforts.
— Manage continuous improvement and development of online and print presence.
— Manage and direct media/public relationships strategies including developing media contacts, identifying newsworthy stories, and writing articles and press releases to distribute to media contacts.
— Lead and supervise the development team in effective production of all branded marketing/communications materials.

General:
— Oversee development and implementation of annual department budget.
— Participate in monthly Senior Leadership Team meetings.
— Participate in the strategic planning process.
— Work in concert with the Executive Director to support the Board of Directors; lead efforts to engage the Board in fundraising, aide recruitment and cultivation of new board members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
— Minimum of five years of progressive experience in development and communications for a nonprofit organization.
— Demonstrated experience designing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plans for all funding streams including individual donors, major gifts, corporate and foundation giving.
— Undergraduate degree in related field.
— Demonstrated success in networking to build creative and mutually beneficial partnerships within the nonprofit, public and corporate sectors.
— Exceptional communication skills, articulate with proven ability to write and edit effectively and speak persuasively.
— Demonstrated success in grant writing, preferably with experience managing government grants.
— Knowledge of youth development programs, conservation practices and community service.
— Demonstrated superior leadership and supervisory skills characterized by the ability to gain respect, delegate authority, and positively influence others.
— Capability to thrive in a small, entrepreneurial and growing nonprofit organization.
— Ability to hire, train, supervise and retain exceptional staff.
— Knowledge of the regional philanthropic community a plus.

POSITION CHARACTERISTICS
— This is an executive, benefits-eligible, full-time, salaried position.
— Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
