Summary

The Director of Development will report directly to the Zenith Education Group President & CEO and will oversee all fundraising activities for the Zenith Education Group. This includes securing funding from foundation, corporate, government, and individual donors and managing contributions made by the ECMC Foundation equaling approximately $12.5 million annually.

The Director of Development will have the opportunity to contribute to changing the trajectory of postsecondary education for underserved populations within an organization on the leading edge of higher education innovation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and launch Zenith Education Group’s fundraising strategy
• Collaborate with the ECMC Foundation to receive funds specifically allocated for Zenith Education Group projects, programs, and initiatives
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts from corporate and charitable foundations
• Develop and write clear and compelling grant proposals, concept papers, and letters of inquiry that articulate the value of the Zenith Education Group’s mission, vision, and programs
• Build the fundraising capacity of Zenith executives and campus leaders
• Serve on the Zenith Education Group executive team
• Manage strong and positive relationships with funders through timely, well-written progress and annual grant reports
• Supervise one grants manager with responsibilities that include managing relationships with grantees, setting up a database, and working with other Zenith teams (e.g., finance)
• Strategize with Zenith’s management for grant-funded opportunities from other philanthropic foundations and corporations
• Produce regular and special reports and conduct site visits as needed or requested
• Collaborate with Corporate Communications to post stories about grant-funding and grant-funded projects and other communications related matters
• Comply with all Zenith and ECMC Group Policies

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Strong relationship building, data analysis, and writing skills
• 7+ years related work experience

Preferred:

• Foundation and government fundraising experience
• Master’s or other post-graduate degree in an applicable field
• Proven track record in prospect management and solicitation of foundation and corporate gifts

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

• Knowledge of word processing operations, database management, and spreadsheet software
• Demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve goals and make decisions
• Excellent organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Outlook
• Capacity to manage competing priorities and handle multiple tasks/projects concurrently
• Comprehensive knowledge of the philanthropic landscape, especially education funders
• Ability to regularly communicate progress to appropriate stakeholders
• Demonstrated the ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail
• Ability to effectively summarize complex data from multiple sources

SUPERVISION/CONTACTS:

• Reports to (title only) – Zenith Education Group President & CEO
• Direct Reports (titles reporting to this position) – Grants Manager-Zenith

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment that requires normal safety precautions (such as in typical office or administrative work).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sedentary work: Job involves sitting most of the time; walking, lifting, bending, standing etc. may be minimally required

TRAVEL

Occasionally – up to 30% of the time

ADDITIONAL PERTINENT INFORMATION:

• Required to work normal hours to successfully perform the job responsibilities
• Required to work at a Zenith/ECMC location, everyday; working from home is not an option
• Must be able and willing to travel to out-of-state sites, as required
• May need to work nights and weekends on occasion to complete work
• Frequently subjected to interruptions, multiple calls and inquiries
• Employee works in an office environment
• The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate
