The National PKU Alliance (NPKUA) is a dynamic patient-advocacy organization for PKU, a rare disease identified at birth. NPKUA seeks an entrepreneurial fundraising professional based in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area with strong leadership skills to drive the organization’s fundraising activity as it embarks on a new phase of fundraising activity.

NPKUA is a vital voice within and on behalf of the PKU community. The organization has a dual mission: improve the daily lives of those individuals and families affected by PKU and accelerate the timeline for a cure. The existing team members are passionate about the cause and have worked together for more than five years. The Alliance has a committed executive director who is well-respected by her board and is internationally-recognized as an advocate for PKU and rare disease research.

The best candidate for this position will welcome the opportunity to build deep relationships with families and friends connected to PKU and will have moved past entry-level development roles and be ready to thrive in an environment to apply best-practices fundraising experience to an organization with solid fundraising infrastructure, strong board engagement, and a constituency motivated to make a positive impact with their philanthropic support.

The Alliance has raised several million dollars in the last decade through appeals and its signature regional gala event Lifting the Limits, which has generated gifts to fund peer-reviewed and targeted research. This strategy has been effective, but now the Alliance is ready to take fundraising and relationship-building to a new level.

After working with Ter Molen Watkins & Brandt (TW&B), a Chicago-based fundraising consulting firm for three years, NPKUA has developed a written case for support, established an effective fundraising committee, and is completing a database conversion from eTapestry to Bloomerang. Our TW&B consultant will continue to work with NPKUA to provide fundraising counsel and to support the success and professional growth of the selected candidate.
