Job Title:  Director of Advancement
Reports to:  President
Status:  Full-Time, Exempt

Broad Scope and Function of Position:
The Director of Advancement is responsible for the leadership of a comprehensive advancement division. The Advancement division includes annual fund, major gifts, events, communications, marketing, grant writing, and capitol campaign efforts. The Director will be a member of the executive team and report to the President. As an organizational leader, the Director will be responsible for relationships with corporations, donors, public partners and community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Fundraising Activities
•    Develop, execute and monitor the goals and metrics for all development activities, including annual gifts, major gifts and planned gifts, events and sponsorships.
•    Cultivate new donors and engage major donors.
•    Create a growth plan for expanded corporate support and sponsorship.
•    Assist the President and Board to maintain strong relationships with current foundations, corporate sponsors and individual donors.
•    Create and execute strategies for to build and maintain a large sustaining base of donors including events, communications, personal engagement and engagement with programs.
•    Train and mentor board, staff and volunteers on fund development and the culture of philanthropy.
•    Ensure that all donor contributions, pledges, in-kind donations and other payments are accounted for, and responded to, in a timely manner.
•    Ensure that the relationship management software is effectively used and that there is compliance with all policies.
•    Lead the utilization of data analyzed from software, and recommend changes to the tools used.
•    Work collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Programs to ensure the success of ESNS’s strategic plan.
•    In the future manage a successful Capital Campaign beginning with a feasibility assessment, donor assessment, case for support, donor engagement and all communication strategies.

Public Relations Activities
•    Oversee the design, implementation and management of a campaign to establish ESNS’s brand and message platform.
•    Oversee the design, implementation and management of ESNS’s visibility, media and communications campaigns for the purpose of fund development and volunteer recruitment.
•    Oversee the design and production of ESNS’s newsletters and website.
•    Coordinate the development of the annual report and related communication.
•    Oversee the communications platform and ensure that the communication efforts align with the strategic plan, and mission.
•    Supervise staff in the areas of Volunteer/Events, Program Development/Grant Writing, Public Relations and Communications.

Qualifications:

Education
•    A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Human Services, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or related field; Master’s Degree is preferred.
•    CFRE desired but not required.

Experience
•    Minimum of 5 years of successful experience in fundraising & development.
•    Knowledge of principles and methods for building prospective donor relations. This includes writing case statements, donor identification, donor cultivation and solicitation, gift stewardship and managing donor relations systems.
•    Experience managing a successful Capital Campaign.
•    Familiarity with a philanthropic community of the Twin Cities area, especially major corporate partners a plus.
•    Proven effectiveness in leading fundraising campaigns and events.
•    PC proficiency.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including both one-on-one communication and public speaking.

Salary: $85,000-$95,000 depending on qualifications. ESNS offers a generous benefits package including Health, Dental, Life, STD & LTD, 403(b) and PTO.
