Organization Overview

The Food Group is a local nonprofit focused on advancing healthy food access to the community. Our programs include food shelf and meal program support, Fare For All, a program offering healthy and affordable foods, and Big River Farms a program offering sustainable agriculture education for local immigrant and historically underserved farmers. The Food Group focuses on local food access, equity, and nutrition issues related to food and hunger in more than 21 counties in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

II. Job Summary:

This position’s role is to maintain and increase individual funding support and relationships for The Food Group by 1) developing existing and new relationships with individual donors and supporters 2) managing the annual fund campaign, and 3) data analysis management for the development department. This position provides key leadership on cultivating and securing approximately 1 Million in contributions annually. This position manages one position and shares responsibility for the successful planning and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising effort to acquire, grow and sustain support for fighting hunger and nourishing the community.

III.    Core Job Functions:    

A. Annual Fund Management – Appx. 60% of time
* Develop and implement an annual integrated plan to build and maintain annual support and relationships from individual donors, including direct mail, monthly giving, and online giving.
* Maintain communication calendar and annual appeal strategy in conjunction with Marketing Manager.
* Responsible for writing donor centered content for direct appeals, acknowledgements, newsletters, and the annual report.
* Develop strategies to share impact with donors and build greater understanding of their impact on The Food Group’s mission.
* Provide key leadership on monthly giving annual campaign and stewardship throughout the year.
* Develop recognition, appreciation, and engagement strategies.
* Develop segmented solicitation and stewardship approach for different groups of donors: Major, Core, Lapsed, Volunteers, New Donors, Loyal, Program Specific, and Event Attendees.

B. Build Out Major and Legacy Gifts Program – Appx. 20% of time
* Create plan to engage donors more deeply through relationship building, strategic touch points, invitations to get involved, and regular communication.
* Strategize how to best qualify donors to build deeper relationships.
* Work with the programs department to identify opportunities for restricted giving and transformational gifts to fulfill program visions that meet community needs.
* Cultivate a key group of major and loyal donors in conjunction with Director of Development and Marketing and Executive Director.
* Take the lead on developing and implementing a planned giving strategy to build donor support.

C. Financial Management and Analysis – Appx. 20% of time
* Manage and provide guidance to The Food Group’s Office Manager who is responsible for donation and acknowledgement processing and database management.
* Work closely to provide guidance to Development Associate on database quality control, mailings lists, and data reporting.
* Handle high-level donor queries and reports in Raiser’s Edge with integrity and
confidentiality.
* Oversee analyzing and organizing data from Raiser’s Edge to evaluate trends, set goals and implement strategic efforts to increase overall giving among donors.
* In conjunction with the Director of Development & Marketing, assume responsibility for the financial success of Individual Giving.
* In conjunction with Director of Development & Marketing, develop and track results of annual revenue and expense budgets for all related budget classes.
* In conjunction with the Development and Marketing team, develop goals, annual development plan, and concrete strategies to meet budget and organizational goals.

* Experience in working with a constituent database is preferred; experience with The Raiser’s Edge is a plus.

Education and Experience
* Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
* Proven professional with at least 3-5 years development experience managing an annual fund and developing key individual donor relationships.
* Proven success with major gifts desired but not required.

V.    Working Conditions and Environment:

This position will office out of our New Hope, MN location. The New Hope location is a dog-friendly, accessible and smoke free office setting. This position works primarily during normal business hours and includes some evening and/or weekend hours. Start times are flexible to adjust to bus, biking, or other transportation schedules. Must have ability to sit for long periods of time and utilize various office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, and calculator) on a continual basis.
