Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa provides hands-on environmental and service-learning opportunities to youth and young adults while accomplishing priority natural resource conservation, environmental education, and emergency response work.


The Development and Communications Specialist will work with the Director of Development, Marketing and Communications to develop and execute the Corps’ fundraising, communications and marketing strategy to increase public visibility and support. The Development and Communications Specialist will design and implement strategies to increase engagement with donors, alumni, volunteers and donor prospects. This position will develop and implement the Corps’ online communications strategy including website, e-newsletters, and social media. The Development and Communications Specialist will also oversee the planning and implementation of all donor, alumni, volunteer, and community events.


— Minimum of three years of fundraising, marketing and communications, event planning and/or volunteer management experience.
— Excellent oral and written communications skills.
— Undergraduate degree in related field.
— Exceptional attention to detail.
— Entrepreneurial, creative and able to handle multiple responsibilities and solve problems.
— Experienced with social media, database systems, print and broadcast media and public relations.
— Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and video production a plus.
— Self-motivated, with proven ability to organize and prioritize work and meet critical deadlines.
— Positive attitude, enthusiasm and commitment to Conservation Corps mission and values.
— High level of initiative, energy and interpersonal skills.
— Capacity to see the big picture while managing details.


— Design and implement strategies to increase engagement with donors, alumni, volunteers and donor prospects.
— Work in concert with Director of Development to implement multi-channel fundraising campaigns that may include direct mail, social media, direct contact and other communications vehicles.
— Identify and plan volunteer opportunities, statewide friends and alumni gatherings and appreciation events.
— Develop and coordinate donor/volunteer acknowledgement and appreciation efforts, including personal calls, handwritten notes, meetings, special events and tours.
— Maintain donor and constituent database. Periodically analyze and report on donor trends, responses to campaigns, engagement with organization, and other relevant information.
— Manage online donation system, process donations and prepare acknowledgement letters.

Marketing and Communications:
— Create, post, and manage digital content for the website, social media, blogs, and e-newsletter.
— Develop and implement innovative marketing and communications initiatives to expand and strengthen visibility of Conservation Corps programs and mission.
— Develop and oversee online communications strategy to increase interaction with donors, alumni, volunteers, community groups and other stakeholders including website, blogs, e-newsletters, and social media channels.
— Design and produce branded marketing/communications materials following Conservation Corps style guidelines.
— Design and produce the Conservation Corps’ Annual Report in collaboration with the Director of Development.
— Ensure consistency of message, branding and alliance with Corps style guidelines in all internal and external communications.
— Oversee bids, schedules and services of external vendors in related areas.

— As needed or assigned, assist with key development activities including those related to grants, major donor cultivation, media/public relations, corps member orientation, program recruitment and marketing, presentations and exhibits, and other development initiatives.
— Coordinate work of interns and volunteers in outreach, communications and development activities, as needed.
