The Center for Victims of Torture is hiring a Development Assistant & Researcher to support fundraising efforts by conducting research and preparing reports on current and prospective donors in order to better understand giving potential and alignment with CVT’s needs. The Development Assistant & Researcher will provide administrative and logistical support for Director of Development and two board committees. This position will oversee CVT’s Speakers Bureau as well as assist with general donor database maintenance and reporting.

We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota, and we have US offices in Atlanta and DC, as well as offices in Africa and the Middle East.

Responsibilities:
•    Prospect Research: Conduct research to identify high potential donors from among the current CVT donor base and prospective new donors. Assist gift officers in updating and maintaining non-gift information on existing donors and prospects in the donor database. Maintain current records on existing prospects and donors to help identify new giving opportunities.

•    Speakers Bureau Coordination: Elevate CVT’s presence in the community by managing speaking requests; help write and shape current content, recruit and train volunteer speakers; speak on behalf of CVT and triage other staff involvement.

•    Meeting Support: Prepare correspondence to donors requesting meetings on behalf of Directors of External Relations and Development. Follow up with phone calls to schedule meetings with donors. Provide administrative support for meetings for two board committees (Development and Policy); schedule meetings, coordinate logistics, prepare materials, attend meetings, take minutes, coordinate meeting technology, and provide follow-up.

•    Database Maintenance and Reporting: Assist development team with ongoing data integrity, intermittent data projects, prepare weekly gift reports and create data files for direct response program.

Qualifications:
Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
•    Bachelor’s degree
•    2 years of professional fundraising experience

Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
•    1-2 years of experience using prospect research tools such as Target Analytics or Wealth Engine

•    Raiser’s Edge proficiency
•    General online research skills including use of social networking sites
•    Service-oriented approach and ability to work well with a variety of personality types
•    Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel)
•    Experience and comfort with public speaking
•    Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
•    Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines)
•    Interest in or commitment to human rights
