MCEA is the legal and scientific voice protecting and defending Minnesota’s environment. We work in the courts, the legislature and state agencies using science and policy to develop, communicate and implement environmental change.


MCEA is seeking an experienced professional who brings vision and innovation to its fundraising program, and who is capable of working closely with the Executive Director to achieve sustained growth for the organization. This is an opportunity define the future direction of MCEA’s fundraising model with full responsibility for donor engagement, solicitation and stewardship, and management of constituent relationships. MCEA’s new Chief Development Officer will be responsible for creating a plan for MCEA’s growth, and will work in partnership with the Executive Director, Communications and Development Associate, Board, and other staff to implement it.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1.    Prepare and implement MCEA’s annual development plan, with both specific revenue goals for the annual budget and strategies for long-term revenue development.
2.    Identify and cultivate relationships with new major individual donors, and maintain relationships with existing major donors.
3.    Grow MCEA’s planned giving program, identifying new donors as well as working with existing donors who have not yet joined the program.
4.    Manage and grow the annual fund campaign through donor contacts and mailings.
5.    Manage foundation relations and oversee the grant submission process including working with program staff to secure general operating and restricted program support from foundations, and identify new institutional sources of support.
6.    Oversee two major special events and several smaller events annually to increase MCEA’s visibility, attract new donors, and raise additional funds.
7.    Coach and support fundraising efforts of executive director, board, staff and volunteers.
8.    Serve on MCEA leadership team and actively participate in MCEA’s strategic and organizational planning.
9.    Work collaboratively with Communications Director on integrated donor communication activities, print and electronic marketing, and co-supervision of Development & Communications Associate.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with Master’s degree preferred;
•    7-10 years of experience fundraising or sales;
•    A proven track record of leadership in fundraising or sales;
•    The ability to clearly articulate MCEA’s message in a way that is compelling to a diverse constituency and a range of potential funders;
•    Experience identifying and cultivating major gifts from individual donors as well as growing planned giving;
•    Experience with grant writing and initiating and cultivating relationships with foundations;
•    Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, a professional and poised demeanor, and the ability to encourage communication and work well with a team;
•    The ability to design and execute a development vision that results in sustained growth;
•    The ability to supervise and inspire employees to create a culture of excellence that supports diversity and creativity;
•    A working knowledge of development software or relationship management systems such as Salsa, Raiser’s Edge, e-Tapestry, Donor Perfect, Sage or similar; and
•    A strong personal commitment to protection of natural resources and the environment that shines through in both words and actions.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
•    The salary range for this position is $90-100,000, with a generous benefits package.
