Outstanding Philanthropic Organization

Securian Foundation

Throughout Securian Financial Group’s 137-year history, being a good neighbor has always been a top priority. Making a difference in the community is deeply engrained in Securian’s culture and is one of its six core company values.

In 1988, the company established the Securian Foundation, which works to enhance the quality of life and vitality of the Twin Cities by investing in nonprofit organizations that make a positive difference and advance the common good in four key areas: economic independence, education, human services and special community needs, and the arts.

Over the past 10 years, the Securian Foundation has granted more than $25 million in cash gifts nonprofit organizations in the Twin Cities – and when including in-kind gifts and corporate volunteerism, Securian’s giving totals nearly $37 million since 2007.

The Securian Foundation has helped fund many philanthropic projects, including the Catholic Charities Dorothy Day Campus, Greater Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, The University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management Securian Ethics Essay Competition, mentoring programs with Urban Academy Charter School, the Neighborhood House school supply drive, Cookie Cart’s new facility in St. Paul, the Saint Paul Winter Carnival Securian Winter Run, and the Securian Scholarship Fund.

Additionally, Securian’s employee campaigns – a 46-year tradition – have created a long-time million-dollar partner for the Greater Twin Cities United Way, supporting hundreds of agencies that provide critical services to our community. For the past nine years, employee campaigns together with Foundation grants have made a total annual contribution of more than $1 million.
