Dick and Joyce McFarland

From public speaking, to volunteering, to providing spiritual guidance, to advising nonprofit organizations and keeping up with their children and grandchildren, Dick and Joyce McFarland live out their profound belief that members of a community owe something to one another and have a responsibility to invest in and care for each other.

Together they have chaired numerous campaigns for local nonprofits, leading by example and encouraging others to invest in impactful and sustainable organizations. The McFarlands are original members of the Minnesota One Percent Club which requires members to donate one percent of their net worth or five percent of their annual income.

As a retired CEO of Dain Rauscher RBC and former Chairman of the Board, Dick was a strong advocate for his corporation’s involvement in United Way. He has served as a board member for several foundations and nonprofit organizations. As a member and Chair of the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Board of Trustees, Dick helped raise support to create the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute. Joyce has served as a board member of Collegeville Ecumenical Institute and is a co-founder of the Episcopal House of Prayer in Collegeville. She also served as a board member at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and is actively involved in the George Institute. With a Master’s Degree in Theology, Joyce works in the Ministry of Spiritual Companioning and Supervision, was active with the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches and has been deeply involved in Parker Palmer’s Courage and Renewal Program to invest in educators and leadership.

Dick and Joyce McFarland are a team that exemplifies Minnesota at its best. They are generous with their time and resources, they lead with her actions and they know that we build a better future by ensuring opportunities for all youth and adults in our community.
